KUALA LUMPUR – The country’s Covid-19 tally today slid drastically to 17,672 from yesterday’s 19,807, making for 1,572,765 cases since the pandemic began.
Selangor logged 4,316 infections, followed by Sabah (2,474) and Kedah (1,602).
Sarawak saw 1,538 cases, Penang (1,451), Johor (1,367), Kelantan (1,176), Perak (952), Kuala Lumpur (891), Pahang (506), Negri Sembilan (478), Terengganu (470), Melaka (363), Perlis (57), Putrajaya (24) and Labuan (7).
The Health Ministry reported 174 coronavirus fatalities, making for 14,342 lives lost to the disease thus far.
Of the 1,040 patients in intensive care, 502 require breathing aid.
Another 19,053 recoveries push up the total to 1,297,723.
Of the new infections, 138 (0.8%) are in Category 5, with 87.7% of them yet to be fully vaccinated.
There are 108 (0.6%) in Category 4, with 88.9% not yet fully immunised, while Category 3 sees 190 cases.
Category 2 has 9,005 cases, and Category 1, 8,231.
Dr Noor Hisham said the 174 deaths today involved 53 fatalities in Johor, followed by Penang (28), Sabah (25), Negri Sembilan (11).
Kuala Lumpur, Kedah, and Kelantan recorded seven fatalities each, followed by Melaka (6), Perak (4), and three fatalities each in Sarawak and Perlis.
He said the country has seen a total of 4,472 clusters, including 30 new clusters today.
A total of 3,033 clusters have ended, leaving 1,439 clusters active.
Dr Noor Hisham said 18 of today’s new clusters are related to workplaces, 10 from the community, and two from high-risk groups.
The cluster with the most infections is the Industri Korporat Satu workplace cluster in Klang, Kuala Selangor, and Kuala Langat in Selangor, with 266 cases, while the cluster with the least infections is the Kg Bakat community cluster in Pasir Mas, Kelantan, with five cases. – The Vibes, August 23, 2021
