KOTA KINABALU – Sabah recorded 2,474 new Covid-19 cases and 25 deaths today.
The state’s official Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said in a statement today that 12 deaths were recorded in Kota Kinabalu, three in Tawau, two each in Papar, Penampang, Beaufort and Putatan, and one each in Keningau and Tambunan.
Bed capacity in Covid-19 hospitals is now almost full, with 1,343 patients occupying 1,457 available beds (92%).
However, the total bed occupancy statewide is at 69.23%, with 4,774 from 6,679 available beds being used in hospitals, low-risk quarantine and treatment centres, and temporary detention centres.
Kota Kinabalu continues to be the district recording the highest number of infections today with 671 cases, followed by Penampang (204), Tawau (196), Sandakan (185), Papar (181), Tuaran (176), Lahad Datu (132), and Keningau (113).
All 27 districts in Sabah are still categorised as red zones or having more than 40 active cases.
He said that close contacts to positive cases are again the main contributor to today’s infections with 1,609 cases (65%), followed by tests carried out on patients experiencing symptoms (557) and cluster screening (140 cases).
Meanwhile, Masidi said that 30.1% of Sabah’s adult population are completely vaccinated as of yesterday, and 52.4% have received first doses. – The Vibes, August 23, 2021
