KUALA LUMPUR - Pakatan Harapan (PH) has urged the government to introduce a raft of reforms, including a RM45 billion direct cash injection for workers, businesses, and the health sector.
In a statement, the PH presidential council said the government should also continue to implement loan moratoriums, but at interest-free terms to save lives and livelihoods.
It said since last year, PH has outlined policies and proposed steps for reforms and improvements that were needed to save the country from the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the economic and political crises.
The reforms included improvements to the National Recovery Plan which ensured the “FTTIS+V” (find, test, trace, isolate and support plus vaccinate) initiative was implemented, apart from ensuring additional support for the public health system.
The statement today was issued jointly by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
The opposition also called for the government to institute reforms to consolidate Parliament through amending the Parliamentary Services Act, strengthening the function of parliamentary check and balances, and recognising the role of the opposition by truly allowing their involvement in governmental efforts.
The PH leaders also urged reforms for other laws, including the implementation of Undi18 and anti-party-hopping laws.
“Seeing that the previous government led by former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin failed to resolve many issues including Covid-19, and since the new cabinet has yet to be formed, Pakatan Harapan is of the view that the prime minister should give due consideration on all issues raised above for the sake of the people and country.” – The Vibes, August 24, 2021
