KOTA KINABALU – Sabah today logged 3,376 new Covid-19 cases with 98.2% or 3,316 cases in Categories 1 and 2, said state Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
The Sabah Covid-19 spokesman said the new cases took the cumulative total of Covid-19 infections in the state to 127,806 cases.
“The new cases today saw a sharp rise in transmissions compared with 2,474 cases yesterday while 17 deaths were also reported today in seven districts, namely, in Sandakan (6); Tawau (4); two each in Kota Kinabalu and Kinabatangan; and one death each in Semporna, Sipitang and Tambunan.
“From the new cases today, 2,094 infections or 62% were detected via close contact screening; 784 via symptomatic screening; 164 via cluster screening; 152 via targeted screening, and the rest via other types,” he said in a statement tonight.
He said 12.7% or 430 cases from the new cases today were cases registered above five days late, 12.3% or 414 were registered four or five days late, and 38.1% or 1,286 were registered two or three days late.
He said 830 Covid-19 patients recovered today, bringing the cumulative total of those discharged to 99,604, while 4,705 patients are still receiving treatment.
Masidi said a new workplace cluster was recorded in Kinabatangan, which is the Sg Pin 3 cluster involving 55 cases from the screening of 83 individuals.
“The cluster involves an oil palm plantation in Sukau subdistrict in Kinabatangan, where the index case was a 51-year-old plantation worker who tested positive via symptomatic screening on August 9,” he said. – Bernama, August 24, 2021
