KOTA KINABALU – The United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) has confirmed that it is now a Pakatan Harapan component.

Party secretary-general Nelson Angang in a statement last night said the Sabah outfit lauds PH’s “big tent” approach.

Upko has been assured of equal standing in PH to bring about reforms for Sabahans, he said.

“Decision-making in important areas is often centralised. Many times, we have seen policies that do not fit our demography.

“For Upko, to change the status quo, our voices and ideas must be heard, and this will be more effectively fought for on a national platform with a coalition of national parties.

“Therefore, strong partnership at the federal level is highly needed.”

Yesterday, PH chief secretary Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced that Upko has officially joined the coalition.

Angang said the party views PH as a pact of progressive parties that share “the same aspiration of our continuous fight for the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63)”.

“It is the right partner for Upko to forge a partnership with in our struggle to achieve the full realisation of MA63.

“It is timely for Upko to formally join PH as a component, and to actively support the strengthening of the opposition bloc in its struggle to realise a progressive Malaysia.” – The Vibes, August 27, 2021
