KUALA LUMPUR – The country today logged 20,579 coronavirus cases – down from yesterday’s 22,597 – making for 1,706,089 infections since the pandemic erupted.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country also recorded 20,845 recoveries today, bringing the cumulative number to 1,422,005, or 83.4% of overall infections.
Only seven of today’s new cases are imported, he said.
In a statement, Dr Noor Hisham said fatalities today stood at 285 cases, of which 51 were brought in dead.
Selangor leads with 4,591 cases, followed by Sabah (2,578), Sarawak (2,522), Johor (1,852), Kedah (1,755), Penang (1,378), Kelantan (1,316) and Perak (1,208).
Pahang saw 839 infections, Terengganu (789), Kuala Lumpur (680), Melaka (636), Negri Sembilan (329), Perlis (56), Putrajaya (48) and Labuan (two).
Of the 285 fatalities today, 110 were recorded in Selangor, followed by Johor (50), Sabah (46), Kuala Lumpur (22), Penang (16), and Perak (eight).
Terengganu and Kelantan logged seven cases each, followed by Kedah (five), while Negri Sembilan and Pahang saw four cases each.
He said Perlis, Melaka, and Sarawak registered two cases each.
Dr Noor Hisham said out of the 20,579 new cases today, 455 (2.2%) are in categories 3, 4, and 5, while 20,124 (97.8%) are in categories 1 and 2.
Of the total infections, 15,651 (76.1) of the cases are those without a history of vaccinations or who have yet to be fully immunised.
He said the country has seen a total of 4,673 clusters, including 26 new ones today. Clusters that have ended are at 3,203, while 1,470 remained active.
Dr Noor Hisham said 20 of today’s new clusters are related to workplaces, with five coming from the community, and another from an education centre.
The cluster with the highest number of cases is the Jalan Industri Tiga Jelapang workplace cluster in Kinta, Perak with 109 cases, while the one with the least infections is the Kg Limau Purut community cluster in Pasir Mas, Kelantan with six cases. – The Vibes, August 29, 2021
