KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today logged 20,897 new Covid-19 cases, a slight rise from yesterday.
This takes the country’s total infections up to 1,746,254 since the start of the pandemic.
Selangor remains at the top of the list with 4,371 cases.
Sabah, Sarawak and Johor all logged more than 2,000 cases – 2,594, 2,285 and 2,159, respectively.
Kedah recorded 1,942 infections, followed by Penang (1,732), Kelantan (1,479), Perak (1,204), Kuala Lumpur (1,003), Pahang (798), Terengganu (608), Melaka (417), and Negri Sembilan (215).
Perlis saw 64 cases, followed by Putrajaya (25) and Labuan (one).
The Health Ministry reported 282 Covid-19 fatalities, pushing the death toll up to 16,664.
There are 1,005 patients in intensive care, with 464 on ventilators.
Another 18,465 recoveries bring the total to 1,461,727.
Of the 20,897 infections today, only one case is imported.
79 cases are category 5, in intensive care units on ventilators, while 119 are category 4 (oxygen support), 224 are category 3 (pneumonia), 12,136 are category 2 (mild symptoms), and 8,339 are category 1 (asymptomatic).
The Covid-19 infectivity rate, or R-nought, currently stands at 1.02 nationally.
Perlis recorded the highest infectivity rate at 1.22, followed by Sarawak (1.19), Sabah (1.12), Penang (1.1), Johor (1.09), Kedah (1.05), Kelantan (1.05), Perak (1.05), Terengganu (1.03), and Pahang (1.01).
Meanwhile, states that recorded R-nought values less than include Selangor (0.93), Malacca (0.9), Putrajaya (0.88), Kuala Lumpur (0.83), Negri Sembilan (0.82), and zero for Labuan.
The Health Ministry reported 1,475 active clusters, including 22 new ones identified today.
11 of the clusters concern worksites in Johor, Kelantan, Pahang, Selangor, and Sabah, registering 287 infections cumulatively.
Meanwhile, eight community clusters were identified in Kelantan, Pahang, Sabah, Terengganu and Johor, with a total of 197 Covid-19 cases.
Only two clusters concern high-risk individuals involving Selangor and Kedah, which logged 45 infections in total.
