BINTULU – Some of the 14 Covid-19 cases detected in Bandar Jaya are identified to have new strains of the virus, said Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing after a report by the Health Department here.
However, he did not disclose which strains he was referring to. Bandar Jaya has also been under the enhanced movement control order since last Sunday.
“The new variants have high infectivity and are more dangerous. I want to remind the public to remain home and not bring your children to malls or supermarkets,” he said in a statement today.
“Data shows that more children are getting infected. For example, 24 children tested positive yesterday, the youngest being four years old.”
Bintulu so far has four dozen Delta cases.
Meanwhile, Sarawak logged 2,285 new Covid-19 cases today – of which Kuching has 1,129 cases, Bau (228), Serian (113) and other districts fewer than 100 cases each.
An 81-year-old woman in Kuching and a man, 60, in Kapit were the latest fatalities, bringing the death toll to 526. – The Vibes, August 31, 2021
