KUALA LUMPUR – Institut Darul Ehsan (IDE) chairman Professor Datuk Siddiq Fadzil died today at 6.30pm.

In its announcement, the think tank described the late academic as an example of critical thinking and progressive outlook that was desperately needed to create a “revival and renaissance” in Malaysia’s diverse society.

“We were fortunate to have spent countless hours in his presence, listening and learning.

“We were also honoured to support his work and collaborate with him on many academic and intellectual projects,” IDE said in their statement.

On August 24, media reported that Siddiq was warded in an intensive care unit, receiving ventilator support.

Siddiq was formerly the president of Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia, Society of Universiti Malaya Muslim Students, and the National Society of Muslim Students Malaysia.

He also served as the first president of Wadah Pencerdasan Umat.

Siddiq was born in Kg Sg Tiang, Bagan Datuk, Perak on January 4, 1947 and was a husband to Datin Siti Zulaikha Mohd Nor.

He died at An-Nur Specialist Hospital in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor. – The Vibes, August 31, 2021
