KUALA LUMPUR – The crediting process for Phase 1 of the government’s Covid-19 Special Assistance programme will begin next Monday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.
He said that the Finance Ministry has been ordered to expedite the distribution of the assistance package, which was supposed to be done in August.
In a statement today, Ismail Sabri, who is the Bera MP, said that up till today a total of RM3.1 billion has been distributed for the assistance scheme to related banking institutions.
“The crediting process for Phase 1 will begin on September 6 and is estimated to end on September 10,” he said.
“The scheme will benefit a total of 10 million recipients comprising the hardcore poor, B40 and M40, and qualified singles.”
While being part of the Economic Recovery and People’s Protection Package (Pemulih), the special assistance programme will also channel additional payments for the country’s economic stimulus package, he added.
“On June 28, the government announced the Pemulih package as one of the initiatives to provide comprehensive assistance to the people in overcoming the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
“I am always sensitive to the people’s grievances and hope that this Special Covid-19 Assistance payment will be able to alleviate the burden of the people affected by the virus.
“The government remains committed to ensure the wellbeing of ‘Keluarga Malaysia’ (Malaysian family), especially the targeted groups,” he said. – The Vibes, September 1, 2021
