[UPDATED] 6,133 of today’s 20,988 new Covid-19 cases fully vaccinated

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia saw 20,988 new Covid-19 cases today to take the cumulative total since the virus outbreak to 1,786,004, said Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The health director-general said 6,133 of today’s new cases (29.2%) had completed two doses of the vaccine; 4,995 cases (23.8%) had one dose; and, 9,860 cases (47.0%) had no history of vaccination. 

He said the country also recorded 23,473 recoveries, bringing the total discharged to 1,506,273.

In a statement, he said 249 deaths were recorded today. Of these, 80 were brought in dead to hospital. The death toll now stands at 17,191.

He also said that 1,417 patients are under intensive care, while 783 require breathing assistance.

Dr Noor Hisham added that only one case was imported.

Of the states that recorded more than 2,000 cases, Selangor leads with 4,073, followed by Sarawak (2,992), Kedah (2,455), Sabah (2,329) and Johor (2,145).

States or Federal Territories with less than 2,000 cases are Penang (1,600), followed by Kelantan (1,247), Perak (990), Terengganu (987), Kuala Lumpur (731), Pahang (599), Melaka (407), Negri Sembilan (301), Perlis (90), Putrajaya (37) and Labuan (5).

Of the 20,988 new cases today, 341 (1.6%) are in categories 3, 4, and 5, whereas 20,647 cases (98.4%) are of the less severe categories 1 and 2.

Dr Noor Hisham said the country has seen a total of 4,804 clusters, including 31 new clusters today.

A total of 3,316 clusters have ended, leaving 1,488 active.

He said 17 of the new clusters today are related to workplaces, nine were from the community, four from high-risk groups, and one from an educational institution.

The cluster with the highest new cases is the Datin Halimah construction site cluster in Johor Baru with 223 infections, while the cluster with the least new cases is the Perniagaan Jalan Kempas Lima workplace cluster in Kota Tinggi, Johor, with just five. – The Vibes, September 2, 2021
