[UPDATED] Covid-19 tally dips to 19,378 new cases; 330 deaths logged

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia logged 19,378 new Covid-19 infections today, a slight decline from yesterday’s 20,988.

Selangor claimed the lion’s share of the total with 3,613 cases, followed by Sarawak (2,464), Sabah (2,404), and Johor (2,331).

Meanwhile, Penang logged 1,726 cases, followed by Kedah (1,470), Perak (1,389), Kelantan (1,356), Kuala Lumpur (740), Pahang (559), Terengganu (532), Melaka (399), Negri Sembilan (270), Perlis (80), Putrajaya (41), and Labuan (4).

With the latest cases, the country has seen 1,805,382 in total.

In a statement, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 5,893 of the new cases, or 30.4%, have received both vaccine doses, 4,638 (23.9%) got one dose, and 8,847 (45.7%) were not vaccinated.

Of the total fresh cases, 332 (1.7%) are in Categories 3, 4 and 5, and the rest in Categories 1 and 2.

Dr Noor Hisham said the country recorded another 22,399 recoveries, bringing the total to 1,528,672.

He said 330 deaths were recorded today, with 93 dead on arrival at hospital. The latest fatalities take the toll to 17,521.

He said there are 1,388 coronavirus patients in intensive care, of whom 762 require breathing assistance.

The national infectivity rate, meanwhile, stays below 1.0 for the second consecutive day.

Despite Selangor having the biggest caseload, Sarawak has the highest infectivity rate at 1.20.

Perlis saw a rate of 1.15, Johor (1.09), Terengganu (1.07), Sabah (1.06), Penang (1.05), Kedah and Kelantan (1.03 each), Perak (1.01) and Pahang (1.00).

Dr Noor Hisham said 34 new clusters make for a total of 4,838 since the pandemic began, of which 1,488 are still active.

He said 20 of the fresh clusters are related to the workplace, community (8), high-risk groups (4), and educational institution and religious community (1 each). – The Vibes, September 3, 2021
