NILAI – The Customs Department foiled an attempt to smuggle out 400kg of methamphetamine worth RM14.4 million in an operation at Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s Air Cargo Complex on Tuesday.
Director-General Datuk Seri Abdul Latif Abdul Kadir said the narcotics were packed in tea bags and placed in several boxes.
Three local men, including a businessman with the Datuk title, were arrested, he said.
The syndicate’s modus operandi is to declare the boxes’ content as “birdcage trolleys”.
“The team found drugs weighing 400kg in eight boxes that were packed between clothing in two larger wooden boxes,” Latif told a press conference here today.
“The drugs are believed to be meant for export to Asia-Pacific countries.”
He said the three suspects, aged between 25 and 56, have been remanded for 14 days, and that the case is being investigated under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. – Bernama, September 3, 2021
