KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has vowed justice following the death of 64-year-old security guard S. Thava Sagayam in tragic circumstances.
On September 1, Ipoh Barat MP M. Kula Segaran in a tweet thanked Ismail Sabri for speaking to Thava Sagayam’s family.
“Our prime minister tried calling (Thava Sagayam’s wife) Philomena, but was unable to reach her.
“He spoke to (Thava Sagayam’s) nephew. He expresses the feelings of many Malaysians.
“If the AG (attorney-general) could speed up the charges against the accused for murder, it would go a long way to calm the anger, anxiety and sadness of (Thava Sagayam’s) family.”

Replying to the tweet, Ismail Sabri said he is both saddened and shocked by what happened, and that there must be justice.
“I’m saddened and appalled by this incident.
“Nobody is above the law. Justice must, and will, take its course. Thank you YB for your concern.”
On December 29 last year, Thava Sagayam was allegedly assaulted by one Noor Azhar Muhammad at a condominium in Ipoh, where he worked.
He was reportedly attacked after refusing to allow the suspect’s son access to the swimming pool, which was closed.
Thava Sagayam was left unconscious, and is said to have suffered a brain injury.
He died eight months later, on August 27, due to complications believed to have arisen from the injuries sustained in the assault.
The authorities, in January, initially charged Noor Azhar under Section 335 of the Penal Code for causing grievous bodily harm.
