PUTRAJAYA – The moratorium on the renewal of motor vehicle licences and driver’s licences has been extended until December 31, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong.
However, he said, holders of motor vehicle licences that have expired must ensure their vehicles have valid insurance coverage, and present their e-cover note to the authorities upon request, including for inspection purposes.
The Road Transport Department (RTD) previously said the renewal period for both types of licences would not be extended beyond September 30.
It said renewals could be done at RTD counters, Pos Malaysia Bhd branches and the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom), as well as via MyEG Services Sdn Bhd.
Wee said the ministry also agreed to allow RTD and Puspakom counters to operate at 100% capacity for walk-in services from Monday.
“Starting September 6, RTD will also end the online appointment system. Customers who want to perform transactions at counters must be fully vaccinated and show their Covid-19 low-risk status on the MySejahtera app,” he told a press conference today.
He said the public is also encouraged to use the online services on RTD’s mySIKAP portal, to avoid congestion at counters. – Bernama, September 3, 2021
