YAN – The Education Ministry has allocated RM2.4 million to carry out repairs at four schools in the district here hit by floods following the Gunung Jerai water surge phenomenon on August 18.
Minister Datuk Mohd Radzi Md Jidin said the schools are SMK Yan, SK Langkasuka, SJKC York Khoon and SK Haji Nyak Gam.
“The allocation of RM2.4 million is to repair damaged facilities and replace assets following the flooding in Yan,” he told the press after a visit to SK Haji Nyak Gam today.
He said the ministry will ensure the repairs are conducted as soon as possible, so that the schools are in good condition by the time they reopen on October 3.
Radzi added that the nationwide school reopening will be done in phases and according to methods that will be made known to the public at a later date, after engagement sessions with school management and teachers are completed.
“We are holding engagement sessions. Once these are done, we will sit with the Health Ministry to share the views we received. From there, we will announce the methods.
“Everyone is worried about this October 3 (reopening), as if everything will be fully open (by then); (it) is not (so). We will explain it one by one. It is a comprehensive plan, including new SOPs that will be implemented.” – Bernama, September 4, 2021
