KUALA BERANG – The government has agreed to give a one-week grace period, effective tomorrow, for traders and pharmacy operators to clear their existing stock of Covid-19 self-test kits.
Deputy Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Rosol Wahid said the ministry hopes this will help them minimise their losses.
“We understand that they bought the kits at prices of more than RM16 and RM19, so we are giving them a week to clear their existing stock so that they do not incur huge losses when the ceiling price takes effect,” he told reporters here today.
“Monitoring will still be conducted by the ministry starting tomorrow, but legal action will be taken against errant traders and pharmacy operators only after a week.”
The ministry has set the ceiling retail price for self-test kits at RM19.90, while the wholesale price is capped at RM16, effective tomorrow. – Bernama, September 4, 2021
