KUALA LUMPUR – The nation recorded yet another uptick in daily Covid-19 cases today at 20,396, up from yesterday’s dip of 19,057.
This brings the cumulative total up to 1,844,835 cases.
Selangor once again tops the list at 3,886 cases, followed by Sarawak (3,747), Johor (2,165), Sabah (2,136), Penang (1,961), Kedah (1,587), Kelantan (1,078), Perak (1,057), Terengganu (861), Kuala Lumpur (597), Pahang (486), Melaka (459), Negri Sembilan (269), Perlis (78), Putrajaya (25), and Labuan (four).
As of last night, 62.5% of the total population has received the first dose of the vaccine, while 48.3% have been fully vaccinated.
However, in his daily Covid-19 update, Health Ministry Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that recoveries slightly outnumbered new infections with 20,573 discharged, pushing the total to 1,570,827 with only eight new imported infections.
Furthermore, he noted that the country also recorded 336 deaths, of which 107 were brought in dead.
He added that 1,338 cases were currently under intensive care, while 735 required breathing assistance.
Of the total new cases today, 322 among those are listed between categories 3 and 5. From this number, 240 had no history of vaccination, while 82 have completed their doses.
He said 13,519 (66.3%) of the total new cases had no history of vaccination, had received at least one dose, or have yet to reach 14 days since their second dose.
He added that 6,877 of today’s reported cases had completed their vaccinations.
“This situation clearly shows that those who are vaccinated are more protected and have a lesser risk of contracting severe cases of Covid-19,” Dr Noor Hisham said.
“This positive development can continue to be seen if Malaysia reaches a higher vaccination rate.”
Dr Noor Hisham said the country has seen a total of 4,891 clusters, including 37 new clusters today.
Clusters that have ended are at 3,434, while 1,457 remain active.
Dr Noor Hisham said 21 of the new clusters today are related to workplaces, while 12 are from the community, three from high-risk groups, and one is from a detention centre.
The cluster with the highest new cases today is the Persiaran Cassia Barat Tiga workplace cluster in Seberang Prai, Penang with 195 cases, while the Kg Gual Tok Deh community cluster in Pasir Mas, Kelantan has the least infections at five. – The Vibes, September 5, 2021
