GEORGE TOWN – In an effort to combat Penang’s growing Covid-19 cases, the state government has appointed environment and welfare exco Phee Boon Poh to lead the state’s Emergency Response Team.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow in a statement said the appointment is a follow-up to his administration’s commitment to improve call centres’ management of their response time of between 24 and 48 hours to monitor patients or close contacts.

“The team will work closely with the state Health Department to improve operations at the Covid-19 Assessment Centre Call Centre.

“It will involve the improvement of call services, as well as the provision of patient logistics needs to treatment and quarantine centres.”

The team will help mobilise resources, including volunteers, via the PgCare Alliance platform, he said.

“They also need to identify the needs of treatment centres to ensure the state’s health system is not paralysed.”

Penang today logged the third-highest coronavirus tally with 2,474 infections.

Last month, the Health Ministry said the state saw the second-highest Delta caseload at 31. – The Vibes, September 8, 2021
