KOTA KINABALU – People here who have registered for the Covid-19 jab via MySejahtera but yet to get an appointment can go straight to nearby vaccination centres (PPVs).
Sabah Community Development and People’s Well-being Minister Shahelmey Yahya in a statement yesterday said the PPVs at Dewan Sri Putatan, Universiti Malaysia Sabah and Wisma Wanita are offering the walk-in facility.
“This is to avoid overcrowding at certain PPVs located in more densely populated places. We want vaccine recipients to feel comfortable and safe.”
Shahelmey, who is also director of the state Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force, said jab sites will prioritise senior citizens, and that there is a special lane for the elderly at each PPV.
State Health Department director Dr Rose Nani Mudin urged the public to get immunised, saying up to 90% of Covid-19 patients in Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s intensive care unit are those yet to get the vaccine.
In a statement, she said data from the hospital shows that unvaccinated individuals have a higher risk of suffering severe complications.
Sabah is currently treating 4,995 coronavirus patients. Of these, 184 require critical care, including in ICUs/repurposed critical care (129) and open wards (55). Another 82 require ventilators.
Dr Rose Nani said Beaufort and Putatan are the first districts in Sabah with the entire adult population having received at least one vaccine dose.
As of Wednesday, the rate stood at 100.25% and 100.06% for Beaufort and Putatan, respectively, with the additional recipients in the data being non-Malaysians.
Kinabatangan and Tongod have the lowest first-dose vaccination rates at 36.95% and 43.19%, respectively.
Up to Wednesday, 65.36% of Sabah’s adult population had received the first dose, and 48.63%, both doses. – The Vibes, September 10, 2021
