SUBANG JAYA – A spill was detected at the Persiaran Kewajipan-Kesas Highway after a 20-tonne container lorry carrying corrosive chemicals overturned around 9pm last night.

In a report issued by the Fire and Rescue Department here, the spill area was approximately 100sq ft along Persiaran Kewajipan in the direction of USJ8 heading to Subang Airport.

Subang Jaya fire station head Syed Shahril Anuar Syed Sulaiman said the emergency call was placed at 9.16pm and a 13-member team was dispatched to the scene.

Later, a nine-member hazmat team was deployed from the Shah Alam station.

Following an inspection, the hazmat team ascertained that the chemicals are Class 8 corrosives, and after the initial clean-up, scattered ash soda around the affected area and followed up with another round of cleaning.

Syed Shahril said that residents in SS13, SS14, and USJ2 should keep their homes well-ventilated.

The stretch was reopened to motorists at 430am. Motorists are advised to either avoid the area or exercise caution when passing the affected area. – The Vibes, September 10, 2021
