KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu and fellow Perikatan Nasional components will continue to work with the government to help realise the country’s recovery until the 15th general election.

Party president Tan Sri Muhyiddn Yassin called on members to begin preparations for the vote by focusing on efforts to strengthen Bersatu at the grassroots level, and to avoid squabbles.

“Avoid feelings of envy and jealousy, consolidate unity, forge stronger cooperation, and enhance efforts to make Bersatu the party of choice for the people,” he said in his speech at the party’s fifth-anniversary celebrations live-streamed on Facebook last night.

“When that time (GE15) comes, PN, with me as chairman, will be contesting. God willing, with the people’s support, we will make a comeback.”

The former prime minister, who has been appointed National Recovery Council chairman, said cooperation among PN components must be strengthened, especially at the division and branch levels.

“Our policy is that we should not be alone going into the elections. We need the support of PN components and allied parties to win and form the government.”

Muhyiddin wants Bersatu to prove that it practises a different political culture, and that its leadership values are based on integrity and trust, and the rejection of corruption and power abuse.

“Our politics are the politics of service. The politics of caring. The politics of service to the people regardless of race and religion. Our politics are not the politics of envy and jealousy. It is not extreme racial politics, it is not about being antagonistic, being greedy and power crazy.

“We do not meddle in court matters. We respect the principle of the separation of powers between the executive, legislature and judiciary. We are committed to the institutional reform agenda that guarantees good governance.”

He announced the setting up of the Bersatu Leadership Academy, which will hold a series of training sessions based on the party’s spirit and values.

“The academy will focus on the national spirit based on Islam that cares for people of all races and religions.” – Bernama, September 11, 2021
