[UPDATED] New Covid-19 cases dip slightly; 19,550 logged today

KUALA LUMPUR – The nation today logged 19,550 fresh Covid-19 infections, taking the cumulative caseload to 1,960,500.

Sarawak tops the list once again with 3,743 cases as Selangor’s downtrend continues with 2,416 infections.

Johor logged the third-highest caseload with 2,282, followed by Sabah (2,163), Penang (1,865), Kedah (1,390), Perak (1,354), and Kelantan (1,320).

States that reported fewer than 1,000 cases each are Terengganu with 953, followed by Pahang (722), Kuala Lumpur (555), Melaka (490), Negri Sembilan (198), Perlis (73), Putrajaya (24), and Labuan (2).

In a statement today, Health Director-General Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the 19,550 new cases, 265 (1.4%) are under Categories 3, 4 and 5, whereas 19,285 cases (98.6%) are of the less severe Categories 1 and 2.

Noor Hisham said the country also recorded 21,771 recoveries, bringing the total discharged to 1,700,733.

He reported that 1,247 patients are under intensive care, while 667 require breathing assistance.

Meanwhile, he said seven cases were imported.

He also reported that the infectivity rate (R-naught) for the nation is below 1.0 at an R-naught of 0.99.

On top of the list is Sarawak with 1.15, Terengganu (1.10), Perlis (1.06), Perak (1.05), Johor (1.04), Penang (1.04), Kelantan (1.03) and Pahang (1.03).

In addition, he said the country has seen a total of 5,087 clusters, including 28 new clusters today.

A total of 3,641 clusters have ended, leaving 1,446 active.

He said 17 of the new clusters today are related to workplaces, six are from the community, three related to high-risk group, while two from other educational institutions. – The Vibes, September 11, 2021
