KUALA LUMPUR – Speculation is rife over the reasons behind the second resignation of National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) chief executive officer (CEO) Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri.
The assumptions are that his resignation is related to controversies surrounding Finas, including a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission matter involving an artist, Mohd Asri Alias, alleging misappropriation in the allocations of Digital Content Fund.
A source cited by The Vibes’ Bahasa Malaysia sister portal, Getaran, said that the allegations are baseless.
“Idham resigned as he is expected to hold a portfolio with bigger responsibilities, a diplomat under the Foreign Ministry to develop the music and film industry to the global market.
“We’ve always asked why our music and film never goes far and penetrate the international market.
“This can happen by creating a film, music and culture department in Wisma Putra. This is the mandate Idham must implement.
“Why Idham? He proved his credibility throughout his tenure as Finas’ CEO. That is why Wisma Putra wants him there.
“It’s actually a loss for Finas, but at the same time it will benefit the entertainment industry as a whole,” said the source, who declined to be named.
Meanwhile, Kuasatek Pictures producer Datuk Mohd Kadir in a Facebook post said that Idham’s presence has evolved the creative industry ecosystem to a level that the nation can take pride in.
“Idham has planted the seed, and the produce will be harvested by the industry players soon. In a short amount of time, the creative industry will have a new face.
“You can’t doubt Idham’s abilities.
“It is time for him to leave Finas and take bigger responsibilities as he is proposed a diplomat equivalent post with Wisma Putra.
“The film industry is also part of an agenda encompassing art and culture. So, Idham’s relationship with Finas would be enhanced, not cut-off.
“However the chess pieces move, the country and Finas will benefit.”
