KUALA LUMPUR – Covid-19 cases in Malaysia dipped slightly today to 18,815, taking the cumulative total to 2,049,750, said Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
In a statement, the health director-general indicated the cases today marked a decrease from the 19,495 cases logged yesterday.
Separately, the ministry’s CovidNow website showed fatalities at 422 as at 11.59pm yesterday, of which 92 were brought-in-dead (BID) cases.
Recoveries today, according to Dr Noor Hisham, are at 16,939 cases, which brings the cumulative total to 1,800,278.
He said Sarawak saw the highest number of cases with 3,660, followed by Selangor (2,718), Johor (2,206), Sabah (1,982), Penang (1,777), Perak (1,446), Kedah (1,233) and Kelantan (1,222).
The states and Federal Territories that saw less than 1,000 cases are Terengganu (814), Pahang (712), Kuala Lumpur (493), Melaka (269), Negri Sembilan (170), Perlis (80), Putrajaya (22) and Labuan (11).
Up to 5pm yesterday non-intensive care bed occupancy stood at 71%, while ICU bed occupancy was at 81%.
Meanwhile, 76.2% of adults are fully vaccinated, while 92.5% has received the first dose.
Of the total population, 54.6% are fully vaxxed while 66.5% has received one dose.
From the total 18,815 cases reported today, only 222 (1.2%) were under Category 3 (symptomatic with pneumonia), Category 4 (symptomatic with pneumonia, requiring supplemental oxygen) and Category 5 (critically ill with multi-organ involvement).
A total of 18,593 are Category 1 (asymptomatic) and Category 2 (symptomatic with no pneumonia) cases.
Dr Noor Hisham said the country has seen a total of 5,228 clusters, including 21 new clusters identified today.
Clusters that have ended are at 3,822, while 1,406 remain active.
He said nine of today’s new clusters are related to workplaces, six are from the community, two from high-risk groups, two from education institutions, and one from a detention centre.
The cluster with the least number of infections is the Senai Jaya Kulai workplace cluster in Kulai, Johor, with eight cases, while the Pulau Kambing workplace cluster covering Kuala Terengganu, Kuala Nerus, Besut, Marang and Hulu Terengganu saw the most new infections at 103 cases. – The Vibes, September 16, 2021
