SANDAKAN – The body of a 62-year-old man was recovered from a Perodua Bezza that was fished out of a river in Sg Kg Batu Putih, Mile 7 here at about 6am today.
The Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call from members of the public, who spotted the car at 5.44am.
As the firemen retrieved the vehicle, they found a body in the car, later identified as Thien Nyuk Kong, 62.
Sandakan district deputy police chief Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek confirmed the discovery of the body, and said early investigation found that there were no criminal elements in the case.
“The vehicle did not have any physical damage, there was no sign that it had been through any accident. The body was found in the driver’s seat and the victim did not have any visible injuries.
“All the victim’s valuables were still in the car,” he said.
Fuad said the body was sent to the forensic unit of Duchess of Kent Hospital to identify the cause of death.
