KUALA LUMPUR – The freeze on hiring foreign workers remains in place until the end of the year, said Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.
This policy also applies to those hired for domestic work.
He said in a statement today that any decision on the foreign workers intake will come after a National Security Council (NSC) meeting with representatives from the Human Resources, Home and Health Ministries, among others.
He also urges employment agencies not to put up advertisements that may confuse the public about the hiring of foreign domestic workers.
The hiring freeze has been in place since the first movement control order in March last year.
Seeing that the majority of domestic workers are from Indonesia, Saravanan said his ministry is in talks with the Indonesian government to finalise a memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding the intake of domestic workers, as the last one had expired on May 30, 2016.
As of last month, there are 92,481 foreign domestic workers in Malaysia, of which 64,181 are from Indonesia. – The Vibes, September 19, 2021
