SEMPORNA – A 61-year-old man has been arrested for inducing others to pay a fee to access Covid-19 vaccines.
The suspect, who was arrested about 2.30pm last Friday, had collected “fees” from 16 individuals.
Semporna police chief Farhan Lee Abdullah said the suspect charged RM20 per person for his service to “help” them get vaccinated.
“The suspect claimed he would get the vaccines to his victims at the Semporna Community Hall,” he said in a statement here today.
Farhan said police are now investigating whether others are involved in the scam.
He said all vaccines are given free by the government and that action will be taken against any individual found collecting money for such operations.
Farhan said the case is being probed under Section 420 of the Penal Code and the suspect faces up to 10 years’ jail and whipping. – The Vibes, September 20, 2021
