[UPDATED] Covid-19 cases rise slightly to 15,759, 301 new deaths

KUALA LUMPUR – New Covid-19 cases jumped back up slightly to 15,759 from yesterday’s 14,345 fresh infections. 

The number of daily new deaths remain alarming with 301 fatalities. Of these, 92 were brought-in-dead (BID) cases, the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website reports.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this takes the cumulative total to 2,127,934.

Sarawak again logged the highest number of cases at 3,732, followed by Johor (1,959), Selangor (1,934), Penang (1,417), Kelantan (1,338), Sabah (1,291) and Perak (1,184).

States and Federal Territories that saw less than 1,000 cases are Kedah with 786, followed by Pahang (707), Terengganu (592), Kuala Lumpur (359), Melaka (264), Negri Sembilan (127), Putrajaya (34), Perlis (23) and Labuan (12).

Dr Noor Hisham said 16,650 recoveries were reported, taking the cumulative number to 1,897,386.

A total of 1,117 patients are in intensive care, with 635 requiring breathing support.

Of today’s new cases, 288 of them, or 1.8%, are in Categories 3, 4 or 5, while 15,471 patients, or 98.2%, are in Categories 1 or 2.

He said 27 of the new cases reported today are imported.

Total clusters stand at 5,328, with 23 new ones identified today. With 4,013 clusters having ended, the number of active clusters stands at 1,315.

Dr Noor Hisham said nine of the new clusters today are workplace clusters, another nine are from the community, three from a high-risk group, and two from education institutions.

The cluster with the least new cases is the Kg Bakong Hilir community cluster in Pasir Mas, Kelantan with 7 cases, while the Lungkidau community cluster in Ranau, Sabah has the most cases at 134. – The Vibes, September 21, 2021
