ALOR STAR – Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s frequent controversial statements became the highlight of the Kedah state assembly session today.
During the debate, Datuk Johari Abdul (PKR-Gurun) asked Sanusi (PAS-Jeneri) to control himself when making open statements as he represented the image of the state and its people.
"This is not a personal matter and Jeneri is also my friend, and leader of the people of Kedah. Only Jeneri has to control his emotions when making statements so that he becomes a catalyst, motivation, and hope for us to lean on.
“I go to Parliament and people ask me why the statements by the menteri besar are so terrible. I feel sad because I know Jeneri is a good person, so I seek our friends’ help because Jeneri’s image represents all of us,” said Johari when debating on the sultan of Kedah’s speech.
The state Pakatan Harapan chairman’s statement was also supported by Yeo Keng Chuan (PH-Kulim), who said that Kedah faced several bad incidents recently and all leaders should set a good example.
“I want to present two copies of this book entitled The Government Principles to the Menteri Besar. I hope he will be inspired so that we can all set a good example for the next generation,” he said.
Sanusi’s most controversial statements include the one he made on freezer containers for Covid-19 victims last month.
At a press conference, he was quoted as saying: “There are enough funeral containers; whoever wants to book a spot should give us your name”.
The statement made him the target of criticism from opposition leaders as well as netizens who called Sanusi insensitive.
Sanusi then apologised publicly to all parties, claiming that it was a joke with a group of journalists who understood his character.
Meanwhile, Sanusi, at a separate press conference, refused to respond to Johari’s rebuke.
“I sometimes like to joke. But even if they take it seriously, it's difficult. I like to speak simply so that the villagers can understand,” he said. – The Vibes, September 21, 2021
