KUALA LUMPUR – Covid-19 cases in Malaysia continue to fall today, with 13,754 infections logged from yesterday’s 14,990.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this takes the cumulative total to 2,156,678.
The country also recorded 16,628 recoveries today, bringing the total discharged to 1,993,716.
Separately, the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website reported 487 deaths, including 161 brought in dead.
Selangor saw the highest number of cases at 1,985, followed by Johor (1,913), Sarawak (1,766), Sabah (1,629), Kelantan (1,264) and Penang (1,052).
States and Federal Territories that recorded less than 1,000 cases are Pahang with 869, followed by Perak (844), Kedah (783), Terengganu (664), Kuala Lumpur (383), Melaka (292), Negri Sembilan (175), Perlis (113), Putrajaya (14) and Labuan (8).
Dr Noor Hisham added that non-intensive care bed occupancy stands at 62%, while ICU bed occupancy is at 74%.
Of these, 613 cases required breathing assistance.
Dr Noor Hisham also said that the country has seen a total of 5,369 clusters, including 15 new clusters today.
A total of 4,101 clusters have ended, while 1,268 remain active.
He said eight of the 15 new clusters today are from the community, while seven are related to workplaces.
The cluster with the most cases is the Industri Jalan 1/9C workplace cluster in Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat, Gombak, Sepang, and Petaling in Selangor with 70 cases.
The Kg Kubang Chenok community cluster in Pasir Mas, Kelantan saw the least number of cases at just six.
15 virus deaths in Sarawak
Sarawak today reported another 15 Covid-19 deaths, even though daily new cases are showing a decline as close-contact testing has been pulled.
The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat today said among the deaths, four died at home and were brought in dead to hospital.
The state’s death toll stands at 725.
Today also saw 1,766 new infections statewide, of which Kuching has 399 cases, Sibu (247), Bintulu (217), Miri (191) and Bau (112). Other districts saw a few dozen cases each. – The Vibes, September 23, 2021
