[UPDATED] 13,104 new Covid-19 cases, S’wak sole state with infections over 2,000

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia recorded 13,104 new Covid-19 cases today in yet another sign of a drop in daily reported infections.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham said the cases today make for a total of 2,198,235 since the pandemic started.

In a statement, he said recoveries were significantly larger than new cases at 20,971 discharged, bringing the total to 1,989,512.

The ministry’s CovidNow website also reported 228 deaths today, including 36 brought-in-dead (BID) cases. This brings the total fatalities to 25,159.

Dr Noor Hisham said 1,058 cases were under intensive care, while 580 required breathing assistance.

Sarawak leads with 2,943 infections, followed by Selangor (1,558) and Johor (1,455).

Kelantan saw 1,206 cases, Sabah (1,078), Perak (994), Penang (955), Kedah (721), Terengganu (685), Pahang (604), Melaka (362), Kuala Lumpur (270), Negri Sembilan (165), Perlis (80), Putrajaya (24) and Labuan (4).

Of the 13,104 new cases, only 201 (1.5%) are in Categories 3, 4, and 5.

The remaining 12,903 (98.5%) of the infections showed little or no symptoms and are identified as those in Categories 1 and 2.

Dr Noor Hisham said the country has seen a total of 5,413 clusters, including 12 new clusters today.

Clusters that have ended are at 4,228, leaving 1,185 clusters active.

He said six of the new clusters today are related to workplaces, and another six are from the community.

The Kg Kubang Bunut community cluster in Pasir Mas, Kelantan recorded the least new cases with five infections, while the Jalan Semenyih construction site cluster in Hulu Langat and Gombak, Selangor saw the most infections at 110 cases. 

Meanwhile in Sarawak today, all big urban districts saw a surge in infections.

There were 2,943 new cases plus 10 new confirmed deaths, said the State Disaster Management Committee secretariat.

Kuching saw 810 new cases, Sibu (377), Miri (324), Bintulu (179), Limbang (150), Sri Aman (110), Bau (110), Samarahan (106) and many other districts several dozen cases each.

The 10 new deaths involved a woman aged 47 and a man aged 52 in Bintulu; two men aged 75 and 85, and a woman aged 90 in Kapit; a woman aged 66 in Sri Aman; a Miri woman aged 77; a Kuching man aged 70; and a Kuching woman aged 96; plus a Sibu man aged 55.
