JOHOR BARU – State Recovery Councils are being established by the government to ensure strategies and initiatives put in place are monitored at district level.
National Recovery Council (NRC) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in approving this said the state recovery councils, which will enable a bottom-up approach to the country’s economic recovery, will be chaired by the states’ respective menteris besar and chief ministers.
At the press conference after chairing his first NRC meeting, Muhyiddin said that the purpose of state-level councils is also to ensure the nation’s recovery adopts a “whole of government” and “whole of society” approach.
“The State Recovery Council’s role is to ensure the NRC’s decisions are implemented and supervised at both the state and district levels.
“The District Development Action Committee will also act as a supervisory and implementation mechanism at the district level,” Muhyiddin added.
The Pagoh MP said the proposal for the State Recovery Council will be presented to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and the cabinet for further consideration and approval.
Muhyiddin also added that the NRC meeting today focused on the opening of the education sector.
He expressed satisfaction over Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin’s presentation concerning the latest update on Covid-19 infections, the reduction in the use of ICU beds in hospitals, and the sufficiency of vaccine booster shots.
“During the meeting today the NRC was informed of the opening of higher institutions of learning by stages starting October 15, as well as the resumption of schools in stages from October 3,” Muhyiddin said.
When asked about the resumption of interstate travel, Muhyiddin reiterated the government’s stance that this will begin once more than 90% of adults are fully vaccinated, which he expects will be completed by early or mid-October.
Additionally, Muhyiddin said there will be discussions concerning the opening of the nation’s international borders this week. – The Vibes, September 27, 2021
