KUALA LUMPUR – Covid-19 cases are continuing an upward trend, with 12,434 new infections today, from 11,332 yesterday.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this takes the cumulative number to 2,232,960.
Sarawak recorded the highest number of cases at 2,967, followed by Selangor (1,362), Johor (1,289) Kelantan (1,125) and Sabah (1,000).
The states and Federal Territories that saw less than 1,000 cases today are Perak with 971, followed by Penang (863), Pahang (663), Kedah (652), Terengganu (612), Melaka (375), Kuala Lumpur (284), Negri Sembilan (169), Perlis (79), Putrajaya (18) and Labuan (5).
Dr Noor Hisham said the non-intensive care bed occupancy rate stands at 56% while ICU bed occupancy is at 64%.
Meanwhile, Bernama reported Dr Noor Hisham as saying 1.7% or 207 of the 12,434 new Covid-19 cases reported as at noon today comprised individuals in Categories 3, 4 and 5.
He said the remaining 12,227 cases, or 98.3%, comprised those in Category 1 (asymptomatic) and Category 2 (mild symptoms).
Patients in Category 3 have pneumonia, Category 4 need oxygen supplementation and Category 5 require respiratory aid.
“Of the new cases, eight were imported involving Malaysians while 12,426 were local transmissions involving 11,591 Malaysians and 835 foreigners.
“A total of 17,000 had also recovered today, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,037,099 or 91.2% of the total number of Covid-19 cases,” he said in a statement today.
He said 979 patients are being treated in ICUs, comprising 871 confirmed cases, while 108 suspected cases are under investigation.
“A total of 565 patients require ventilators, with 378 confirmed being positive for Covid-19 while 187 are suspected cases under investigation,” he said.
Dr Noor Hisham also said that 15 new clusters have been detected, with nine at workplaces and six in the community.
He said the Covid-19 infectivity rate or R-naught (Rt) for the whole country based on daily infections yesterday was 0.88.
“Putrajaya recorded 1.01 and Terengganu 1.0 while all other states recorded Rt of below 1.0,” he said. – Bernama, September 29, 2021
