MELAKA – A 12-year-old who fell unconscious after getting the Covid-19 jab at the Encore vaccination centre (PPV) in Klebang here was nervous, lacked sleep, and did not have breakfast beforehand.
Melaka Health Department deputy director (public health) Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman said the boy appeared apprehensive during the vaccination process, but did not experience side effects shortly after being injected or during the observation period.
He said the teen suddenly felt weak and collapsed when heading to the parking lot after getting his shot, and had to be supported by family members back to the PPV for further examination.
“A 30-minute observation by the medical team found the teen to be in stable condition, and he was allowed to go home,” said Dr Rusdi in a statement last night.
“A follow-up call to his family found him to be healthy and active as normal.”
Further checks showed that the boy slept at 2am on the day of his vaccination, and he had only a spoonful of nasi lemak prior to getting the jab.
“The Melaka Health Department and district health office will continue to monitor the teen’s health from time to time,” said Dr Rusdi.
