GEORGE TOWN – Police are conducting further investigations into the case of a businessman found dead today, believed to have fallen from a condominium unit in Jalan Kelawai.
Northeast district police chief Soffian Santong said the case is classified as sudden death and no criminal elements have been detected so far.
“The man’s body was sent to Penang Hospital’s Forensic Department, and a post-mortem will be conducted after the Covid-19 screening result is obtained,” he told Bernama.
“Police are investigating the case as sudden death, and the initial probe has found no criminal elements. But, we are waiting for the post-mortem report to see whether criminal elements were detected.”
He said the body of the 53-year-old man was found by a security guard at 5am in the luxury condominium’s swimming pool.
The body had severe injuries, and it is believed that the victim had fallen from his unit.
Soffian said preliminary investigations found that the victim lived with his wife and their children in the unit.
He declined to comment further on the identity of the man, said to be a main witness in a court case over the Penang undersea tunnel project.
The victim’s identity will be provided only after the post-mortem is done, he said.
“When police arrived at the scene, the man was already dead. We are still investigating the identity of the victim and the cause of the incident.” – Bernama, October 5, 2021
