MELAKA – Melaka Perikatan Nasional is ready to hold talks with Umno to avoid three-cornered fights in the upcoming state election.

Its chairman Datuk Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen said Bersatu, along with PAS and Gerakan, has made a stand that there will be no clashes for state seats.

“We are open if Melaka Umno wants to negotiate with the state PN to avoid three-cornered fights. If Umno is ready, we will think about the next course of action.

“As long as we have yet to know Umno’s decision, we will not go into detail (on seat distribution). We are waiting for Umno to make a decision,” he told a press conference in Ayer Keroh here today.

Present were state PAS commissioner Datuk Kamaruddin Sidek and state Gerakan chairman Datuk Seri Michael Gan Peng Lam.

Bersatu man Rafiq said the party membership of assemblyman Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad has been automatically revoked following his move to withdraw support for the state government led by Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.

State Speaker Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh was today reported as saying the state assembly was dissolved effective yesterday.

This comes after four reps announced that they have lost confidence in Sulaiman’s leadership.

The four are former chief minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron (Sg Udang-BN), Datuk Nor Azman Hassan (Pantai Kundor-BN), Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Pengkalan Batu-independent) and Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad (Telok Mas-Bersatu). – Bernama, October 5, 2021
