KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today recorded 9,380 fresh Covid-19 cases, for a total of 2,303,837 infections since the beginning of the pandemic.

States that logged over 1,000 cases each are Sarawak (1,503), Selangor (1,116), Kelantan (1,170) and Johor (1,105).

Sabah filed 790 cases, followed by Terengganu (704), Perak (629), Penang (623), Kedah (556), Pahang (511), Kuala Lumpur (214), Melaka (200), Negri Sembilan (191), Perlis (42), Putrajaya (18), and Labuan (8).

In a statement, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the 9,380 new cases today, 181 (1.9%) are in categories 3, 4 and 5, whereas 9,199 cases (98.1%) are of the less severe categories 1 and 2.  

Dr Noor Hisham said the country also recorded 13,045 recoveries, bringing the total discharged to 2,144,681.

He reported that 851 patients are under intensive care, while 447 require breathing assistance. 

Meanwhile, he said 13 cases were imported. 

He also reported that the infectivity rate (R-naught) for the nation is below 1.0, at 0.87.
 
On top of the list is Perlis with 1.03 and Melaka (1.00) while the infectivity rate in other states and Federal Territories are below 1.0. 

In addition, he said the country has seen a total of 5,547 clusters, including 11 new clusters today. 

A total of 4,615 clusters have ended, leaving 932 active. 

He said five of the new clusters today are from workplaces, five from the community while one is related to a high-risk group. – The Vibes, October 6, 2021
