KUALA LUMPUR – Fifteen former Melaka assemblymen are planning to seek an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in a bid to end the state’s political impasse, said independent politician Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee.
Norhizam was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying the group wanting to meet Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah comprises former independent politicians and those from Pakatan Harapan looking to resolve the crisis.
The effort is being made to uphold justice and resolve the tussle in Melaka, following state Speaker Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh’s announcement on the assembly’s dissolution, he said in a statement yesterday evening.
“This proposal has been agreed upon by all quarters, and we will head to Istana Negara by bus in the near future.”
The dissolution came after four reps, including Norhizam, withdrew their support for Umno’s Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali, who is now caretaker chief minister.
The other assemblymen are Umno duo Datuk Seri Idris Haron and Datuk Nor Azman Hassan, and Bersatu’s Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad, who has since been sacked by his party.
Meanwhile, MalaysiaGazette quoted Norhizam as saying Idris will lead the delegation to the palace today.
“Tomorrow (today), we will head by bus to Istana Negara, and this proposal has been agreed upon by all parties,” he reportedly said yesterday in an audio recording obtained by the news site.
“This proposal (audience) was voiced out by Datuk Seri Idris Haron, and we will head to Istana tomorrow.” – The Vibes, October 7, 2021
