KUALA LUMPUR – PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said his party is ready to face the Melaka election despite not having any seats prior to the dissolution of the state assembly.

To that end, he said in a statement, PAS has set up a committee tasked with formulating a strategy ahead of the possible snap election in Melaka.

“The committee is chaired by PAS vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and assisted by PAS central election department and the Melaka PAS liaison committee.”

Two days ago, state Speaker Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the dissolution proclamation was gazetted after Melaka Governor Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam dissolved the state assembly the day before.

Rauf said this is following a letter sent by outgoing chief minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali of Umno to the governor informing that four assemblymen withdrew their support for the state leadership.

The four are Umno’s Datuk Seri Idris Haron and Datuk Nor Azman Hassan, independent assemblyman Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee and Bersatu’s Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad.

Meanwhile, Melaka Pakatan Harapan chief Adly Zahari has opposed the dissolution, saying the coalition will bring the matter to court to determine the legitimacy of the caretaker government.
