KUALA LUMPUR – The country today logged another 9,890 coronavirus infections, making for a total of 2,313,727 since the pandemic began.
In the lead is Sarawak with 1,413 cases, followed by Selangor (1,402) and Kelantan (1,032).
Johor saw 993 cases, Sabah (820), Perak (794), Penang (721), Terengganu (699), Pahang (564), Kedah (503), Melaka (260), Kuala Lumpur (250), Perlis (200), Negri Sembilan (180) and Putrajaya (59).
Labuan recorded no fresh cases.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said as of 5pm yesterday, 55% of intensive care unit (ICU) beds and 50% of non-ICU beds were in use.
In a statement, Dr Noor Hisham said that of the 9,890 new cases today, 162 (1.6%) are in categories 3, 4 and 5, whereas 9,728 cases (98.4%) are of less severe categories 1 and 2.
He said the country also recorded 12,884 recoveries, bringing the total discharged to 2,157,565.
He reported that 827 patients are under intensive care, while 445 require breathing assistance.
Meanwhile, 18 cases were imported.
Dr Noor Hisham also reported that the infectivity rate (R-naught) for the nation is below 1.0 at an R-naught of 0.86. The R-naught for all states and federal territories are also below 1.0.
In addition, he said that the country has seen a total of 5,560 clusters, including 13 new clusters today.
A total of 4,649 clusters have ended, leaving 911 active.
Eight of the new clusters today are from workplaces, three from the community, and two from other educational institutions.
19 more in Sarawak ICUs, 20 deaths
In Sarawak, the number of patients in the ICU for Covid-19 have surged in the state’s hospitals.
A total of 19 people were admitted into the ICU with 10 of them requiring oxygen support and the remaining nine put on ventilators.
Seven more patients were reported to have been suffering from lung infections.
They are among the 1,413 new infections reported statewide today.
The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat said in a press statement that Kuching reported 387 new infections, Miri 193, Sibu 131, and several districts a few dozen cases each.
The state saw another 20 Covid-19 deaths today, with six of them being brought in dead.
The victims were from Betong (two); Sarikei, Kapit, Mukah, Limbang, Kuching (two each); Sri Aman (four), Bintulu (three), Samarahan (two), and Sibu (three). – The Vibes, October 7, 2021
