KUALA LUMPUR – With 89.1% Malaysian adults fully vaccinated, the government is inching closer to announcing the resumption of interstate travel.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob told the press outside Auditorium Perdana, Wisma Radio RTM, that an announcement on the matter will be made soon.

The Bera MP assured that interstate travel will be permitted at one go, involving all states.

“Some states have low vaccination rates. These states have only around 60% to 70% of their adult population vaccinated.

“So if we allow interstate travel now, it may have a negative impact on such states,” Ismail Sabri said.

Yesterday, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah tweeted that interstate travel will be allowed in the next few days, urging the populace to strictly comply with Covid -19 standard operating procedures and perform self-tests before travelling.

The government had earlier mentioned that interstate travel would resume when 90% of Malaysia’s adult population has been fully vaccinated.

At press time, the Health Ministry’s CovidNow database states that 89.1% of the adult population has been fully vaccinated. – The Vibes, October 8, 2021
