[UPDATED] Covid-19 cases down a nudge to 8,743

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia recorded a slight dip in Covid-19 cases today with 8,743.

This takes the caseload to 2,332,221.

In a tweet, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the breakdown of cases by state will be available on the ministry’s CovidNow website.

This is a departure from the norm where Dr Noor Hisham would release the data in the afternoon and a full statement in the evening.

The CovidNow website typically updates the day’s data at midnight.

In his statement, which omitted the case breakdown, he said the country recorded 14,422 recoveries today, bringing the total recovered cases to 2,184,711.

He added that 419 cases required breathing assistance while 770 cases are under intensive care.

Dr Noor Hisham said that from the 8,743 infections reported today, 122 (1.4%) were from Categories 3, 4, and 5 whereas 8,621 cases (98.6%) are from Categories 1 and 2.

The country has seen a total of 5,580 clusters since the pandemic began, including 10 new clusters today.

With 4,735 clusters having ended, active clusters are currently numbered at 845.

Dr Noor Hisham said that four clusters were sourced from the workplace, four are from the community, and two from high-risk groups.

The cluster with the lowest new infections is the Kg Belukar Kubang Gadong community cluster in Pasir Mas, Kelantan, with seven cases, while the Sg Pelus community cluster in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, recorded the highest infections with 98 cases. – The Vibes, October 9, 2021
