KUALA LUMPUR – The improving Covid-19 situation in the country in recent weeks has proven that Malaysia and the people are ready to enter the endemic phase, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said this can be seen through declining average daily cases, cluster numbers, and hospital utilisation capacities, even as the country continues to register a high vaccination rate.
He said that overall key indicators, including the number of daily cases, active cases, fatalities, cases treated in intensive care units, as well as the R-naught rate, recorded consistent declines since the 34th epidemiology week (August 22-28).
He said there was a decline of 23.6% in the number of Covid-19 cases, from 83,368 cases in the 39th week to 62,722 cases in the 40th week.
“A total of 133,806 active cases were reported in the 40th week, a decline of 21% compared to the 39th week,” he said in a statement on Covid-19 developments today. – Bernama, October 11, 2021
