PUTRAJAYA – Umno should not air views based on the party’s interests alone as it needs cooperation from many quarters, said Ketereh MP Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

He said the party should consider its position as one that is leading the government, adding that it is detrimental to Umno if other quarters refuse to cooperate with it.

“The politics of consensus, discussion and inclusiveness must be given serious attention by Umno,” he told the media here today.

He was commenting on a statement by party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi that Umno and its Barisan Nasional coalition will go it alone in the Melaka election.

Annuar said the party should not forget that cooperation with others is crucial for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“The prime minister needs support and good relations with other parties, and no state election or by-election should ever jeopardise the Malaysian Family concept and inclusivity that he introduced.”

Tonight’s Supreme Council meeting will decide Zahid’s stance on the Melaka polls, he said.

“It is good to practise a culture of negotiation so that a decision can be made based on consultation, and personal views driven by certain sentiments that are harmful (to the party) can be avoided.” – Bernama, October 14, 2021
