[UPDATED] ‘My brother has the right to form a new party’

BERA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said it is his elder brother Kamarazaman Yaakob’s right to set up a new party, Parti Kuasa Rakyat, in the country’s democratic practice.

Ismail Sabri, who is also Umno vice-president, said family members belonging to different political parties was not something new in this country.

“It has been happening in Malaysia…. this is democracy and that’s his right... there’s no quarrel over it,” said the Bera MP when asked about Kamarazaman’s move of setting up Parti Kuasa Rakyat recently.

He was speaking at a media conference after the wearing of rank ceremony for Bera district police chief Mansor Samsudin, who was promoted to the rank of deputy superintendent at Dewan Sri Kempas of the district police headquarters today.

Officiating the event was Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani. Also promoted was Bera deputy police chief N.Kumaran from assistant superintendent to deputy superintendent.

Also present were Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Mohamed Said, Bukit Aman Logistics and Technology Department director Datuk Seri Sahabudin Abd Manan, and Bukit Aman management director Datuk Zaini Jass. 

Kamarazaman had reportedly launched Parti Kuasa Rakyat, a multiracial party, on October 10. Among others, it claims to champion free education, free health and free housing; and the creation of job opportunities, especially for the B40 and M40 groups. – Bernama, October 17, 2021
