KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia continues to stay within the 5,000-6,000 range of daily Covid-19 cases, recording 5,745 today.
In a tweet, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah shared that the infectivity rate has reduced over a seven-day period.
He said 152,478 cases were screened today, bringing the infectivity rate to 3.77%, which is lower than the 5% threshold set by the World Health Organisation.
Meanwhile, the country’s cumulative caseload stands at 2,401,866.
According to a table he shared, Malaysia’s infectivity rate last Wednesday was at 5.44% and on a slight uptick at 6.11% the next day. Last Friday, an infectivity rate of 5.67% was recorded, followed by 5.5% and 6.11% over the weekend.

Yesterday, the rate rose to 6.25%, but only 86.905 cases were screened and 5,434 tested positive.
“It is important for the public to be aware of getting vaccinated, adhering to the SOPs (standard operating procedures) and conducting scheduled RTK-Antigen (RTK-Ag) screenings,” he said.
In a statement today, Dr Noor Hisham said of the 5,745 new cases today, 115 (2%) are under Categories 3, 4 and 5, whereas 5,630 cases (98.4%) are of the less severe Categories 1 and 2.
He said the country also recorded 8,933 recoveries, bringing the total discharged to 2,287,888.
The health director-general added that 682 patients are under intensive care and 331 require breathing assistance.
Meanwhile, he said 12 cases are imported.
Dr Noor Hisham noted that the infectivity rate (R-naught) for the nation is at 0.88.
Negri Sembilan tops the list with an R-naught of 1.04, followed by Putrajaya (1.02), Kuala Lumpur (1.01) and the rest of the states and Federal Territories below 1.0.
In addition, he said the country has seen a total of 5,695 clusters, including eight new clusters today.
A total of 5,061 clusters have ended, leaving 634 active.
He said seven of the new clusters today are from workplaces, whereas one is related to an education institution. – The Vibes, October 19, 2021
