KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s Covid-19 caseload continues to rise with the Health Ministry reporting 6,630 infections today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,420,222.
The new Covid-19 cases recorded today is up by 420 cases from yesterday’s 6,210 cases.
This marks the second consecutive day that the country’s daily Covid-19 cases have surpassed 6,000.
According to a statement, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 7,630 recoveries, bringing the total discharged to 2,311,213.
Dr Noor Hisham said of 6,630 new cases today, 101 (1.5%) are in Categories 3, 4, and 5, whereas 6,529 cases (98.5%) are in the less severe Categories 1 and 2.
He reported that 653 patients are under intensive care while 322 require breathing assistance.
He also said 15 cases were imported.
He reported that the infectivity rate (R-naught) for the nation is below 1.0, with an R-naught of 0.86.
Topping the list are Kuala Lumpur (R-naught 1.03) and Negri Sembilan (R-naught 1.0), while the rest of the states and federal territories logged infectivity rates below 1.0.
In addition, he said the country has seen a total of 5,717 clusters, including 12 new clusters today.
A total of 5,137 clusters have ended, leaving 580 active clusters.
He said six of the new clusters today originated in workplaces, three are related to education institutions, two are from the community, while one is linked to religious activity. – The Vibes, October 19, 2021
