Covid-19 tally dips below 6,000 mark with 5,828 fresh cases

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia saw a drop of 802 Covid-19 cases today to 5,828 from yesterday’s 6,630, bringing the cumulative infections in the country since the pandemic began to 2,426,050.

According to his daily Covid-19 statement, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 9,178 recoveries, bringing the total discharged to 2,320,391.

Dr Noor Hisham said out of the 5,828 new cases today with seven imported cases and that 97 (1.7%) cases are in Categories 3, 4 and 5, whereas 5,731 (98.3%) are in the less severe Categories 1 and 2.

He reported that 620 patients are under intensive care, while 297 require breathing assistance.

The ministry also found that the infectivity rate (R0) for the nation is below 1.0, at 0.87.

On top of the list is Kuala Lumpur with R0 1.02 and the rest of the states and Federal Territories are below 1.0.

In addition, he said, the country has seen a total of 5,719 clusters, including two new clusters today.

A total of 5,162 clusters have ended, leaving 557 active clusters.

He said both of the new clusters today originated in workplaces in Kluang, Johor, and Kinabatangan, Sabah. – The Vibes, October 23, 2021
