BUTTERWORTH – Police arrested a man believed to have hacked his housemate to death in an incident at a house in Jalan Pak Abu, Kg Telaga Air, here, last night.

In the 7.35pm incident, the 34-year-old suspect reportedly had a fight with his 30-year-old housemate, which was suspected to be caused by the loss of the mobile phone belonging to a friend.

Seberang Perai Utara district police chief, Noorzainy Mohd Noor, said a witness, the suspect’s stepbrother, had heard an argument between his stepbrother and the victim.

“The witness informed us that he lives in the house next door and heard an argument between his stepbrother and the victim.

“However, the witness did not see the altercation before he saw the victim being taken to a hut in front of the house by two of their housemates, before both called an ambulance as the victim was seriously injured due to multiple cuts on the calves and fingers,” he told reporters today.

He said the victim, who has 15 past criminal records, was reported to have died while receiving treatment at the Seberang Jaya Hospital.

Following the victim’s death, Noorzainy said police managed to detain the suspect in the Mak Mandin area, about 9am this morning.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had admitted to arguing with the victim before a fight broke out between them,” he said.

Noorzainy said a check on the suspect also revealed that he has 22 criminal records.

The suspect is currently remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code. – The Vibes, October 25, 2021
